Help me with Pinterest.......please!!

So. I just posted about an hour ago, but I am really frustrated with Pinterest.

First of all, I noticed awhile back that some of my pins (I had pinned some images from my blog) were gaining alot of momentum, and that alot of people were coming to my blog via Pinterest.

Then all of a sudden, it stopped.

When I searched Pinterest for my "pins", they could not be found.

I still had my boards (Classroom, Wedding, Home, etc) with all my pins, including my pins from my blog that were in my Classroom board.

I looked through the Pinterest rules and saw that we shouldn't 'self-promote'. Surely I cannot be the only person that has ever pinned some things from their own blog? Have I been kicked out?

Can you help me with 2 things please, please, please?

1) What have I done wrong that when you search (example) place value or math journals.......my stuff does not come up anymore (it used to).

2) How do I add the 'pin it' button on my posts so that other people can pin my stuff?  I have already googled many tutorials and tried SEVERAL, but none seem to work.

Please help! I feel so lost and I want to stay connected to teacher blog/pinterest/TPT stuff!

Thanks,
Kelli

I'm not sure - I can't find my pins when I search, but if I search for my blog address, they come up.
To see how to add a pin it button, go to the 3am teacher: http://the3amteacher.blogspot.com, I think. She just posted about this today!

I'm not sure why that's happened but my first thought is that they are older pins and newer pins show up first. The search feature also blows sometimes. I just searched for something I presumed would show up for me and I got one result. P.S. I search Easter Subtraction so I know there's more than one thing.

Also, I used this tutorial: http://pinterest.com/pin/287597126174120698/ It was the first one to work for me, but I'm still not certain that it attaches to specific posts instead of just my blog itself.

??????? I don't get it. But that stinks!!!! I don't see why you shouldn't be able to pin things from your own blog. I wish I knew something to help, but I'm out. At least it's the weekend!

Kelli;

I just started having the exact same problem. I can no longer see my pins, except on my home page. I have tried to contact Pinterest support but no one answers

I just found your blog because I am having the same problem and trying to find an answer via Google. My pins show up under my own boards, but not under the General Categories they should be in. It's happened the last two times I've tried to pin something from my own blog. And I'm certainly not spamming it. I pin only ONE image per blog post.

I know, I don't get it?! Hope to find out sometime!

This started happening to me, too. I don't get it!

Still having issues. Occasionally my pin will hit the categories page, mostly they don't. I've tried researching it more and what little info I can find blames this on their new algorithm to combat spammers.

Problem is, I'm definitely not a bot or a spammer and I can't get my pins to show. But, when I try to look through categories I see plenty of spammers that have figured out how to get through. :(

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to whether or not my pins will now show up, it's a total crapshoot and I cannot find any discernible pattern.

Yes I am having the same problem...it is sooo frustrating!!! About one in 15 pins seems to make it to the public categories, the rest just go to my boards and no one, but my few followers see them. I too have posted pics from my website http://mysticalchemyarts.com/ , I am an artist just starting out and trying to get some people to see my work. It is so frustrating to see that blatant spammers make it through and little guys like us are getting blocked. Thanks for putting this out there...at least I know I am not alone. xx

I had the same problem!! I am so irritated. Just started my website, and I found that every time I pinned, I would get slammed with people. I was so excited. I was getting the word out. yes, I did "over" pin, I admit, but what they don't take into consideration is: every time you pin, sometimes It just pops up on the pin page and people just now saw it when they were on pinterest. Now, I think I am banned or something from it. I am totally po'd..I don't know what to do either! Anyone get an answer?

I too have this same problem; for the past two weeks, none of my pins have been showing up in the search or the general boards. I've contacted Pinterest support, who knows...

I have been doing some research on this as well. It appears that there is a possibility Pinterest made some changes a couple months ago to cut down on spammers. As a result, only so many of your pins will show up in the category boards. I have not yet verified how many will show up per hour or day and have been trying to nail down that information. In addition, the pages gain content pretty quickly, so sometimes you dont see a pin because it is already off the page by the time you get there...
It seems it would be beneficial to create a community of bloggers who take the time to repin each others material in order to enhance our networking!? I know you can pay for such things, but that seems silly.
Good luck and I will let you know if I discover anything else!

I'm having the same problem. I just started re blogging this year and would post things occasionally to pinterest (along with other people's pins too, not just my own stuff). And I was excited when it would pull some people to my blog. Very cool. Now I will pin something, recipe, craft, and only my friends see it, no one else sees it. So weird. Hardly any repins. Even though it is an original idea with a great picture. Someone said they changed an algorithm to hinder spammers and I read somewhere else they changed it so only heavy traffic pinners get top billing (thus putting us small fry out in the cold). They also said the big pinners would have things that were months old at the top of the page, which in my opinion would slowly kill pinterest, nobody is attracted to 4 month old posts, but what is fresh and new and current. I don't know. I too thought maybe I got dinged for pinning things from my own blog, but I was equally pinning all kinds of other things I found on pinterest too and not every day. I like the idea of a community of bloggers that would repin each others stuff. Sign me up for that. I'm glad there are others out there that have noticed. I hope they change it back soon.

Anon from July 3rd commenting again: In specific, one of my favorite pins (which I've always kept on eye on) had always appeared in the search, along with 3 other pins. Now when searching, those three still appear, and not mine. It's not like it's a common phrase in which my pin is getting swept out of search results by newer pins.

Contacting Pinterest support is as worthwhile as yelling at a wall. I may take my issue to their Facebook page.

A similar issue is happening to me as well! I started two boards to basically catalog some of my styling and personal outfits from my blog (just as I have seen other fashion bloggers do) and now those two boards I created aren't even showing up with the rest of my boards! Then when I go to "recreate" the board, it says that board already exists (even though its not showing up). It is extremely frustrating to say the least.

Rachel! I have the same problem just now. How do you fix it?

Tui Cook said...

I have over 600 pins in a board and only the first hundred are showing up. I'm not sure why the older pins are not showing up.

SabrebIade said...

Same here.
I pin a LOT of Lucha Libre stuff (cause I like Lucha Libre) and not a single one shows up in Pinterest search.
My pins, repins from other pinners...doesn't seem to matter.
They are just not there.
But as Andrea said earlier...
"But, when I try to look through categories I see plenty of spammers that have figured out how to get through."
Maybe I should contact them.....

Jen @ SlimmerKitchen.com said...

Sigh. Same Problem! I've had a few posts make the category pages but there seems to be no rhyme or reason for it. Only 1 of maybe 30 of my posts is a pin from my own blog and i pin and repin on other blogs and categories all the time.

I do have a board that is a community board that I can post to and I know all 6,000 people on the board see it (Cabot Corner). Maybe there are boards in your category where you can join (you usually send the moderator a message on facebook and they will "invite" you to join and you post on it yourself. You can also START your own community board.

At least we're not alone but it sure was nice when you pinned something from your own blog and got 100 hits!

I hate this algorithm or whatever decides which pins to show in searches. Right now I have several Halloween themed boards and not one of them shows up.
People say Pinterest now favors old users and shows old pins.
So when will they make them visible? In spring?

Hi!
Same problem here, my boards and pins would never show up in their search. This is even more frustrating since one of my board has actually far more subscribers than all those featured in the topic search results. This proves how search results are dramatically irrelevant!

Besides, I experienced something very weird... when I joined pinterest last May, I quickly got new followers and all of a sudden, the number of my subscribers was cut by half. Yet, my account is not linked to any blog or even facebook account since the beginning. I hardly ever repined my own pins (and I only did so to show a same pin in a couple of boards).

I love pinterest but these "mysteries" drive me nut.

Argh! I'm having the exact same issue - I have posted images (not spam!) and when I search for the keywords I included, I scroll right down to the bottom of the page where there are no pins left, and my pins do not appear anywhere. Very frustrating. If it's a limitation in Pinterest, then it's a limitation, it would be great if someone from Pinterest could state clearly what the deal is as none of this is covered in their help pages.

I do not have a blog or a website, and the same thing has happened to me - starting two weeks ago. I had an average of around 40 repins per day from non followers, and an average of 3 new followers per day. For the past two weeks, hardly any repins, and I think I've managed to gain around 13 new followers..I was gaining around 20 new followers per week up to two weeks ago...I have not had any repins for the past 3 days. No new followers since that time now either. I was really enjoying using pinterest. It seemed really satisfying to think that I had created a really nice looking account, and was pinning things that were obviously so interesting to people that I had developed a nice momentum and following. I feel like now it's kind of pointless. It's frustrating to be going really well then it all just stops. I contacted Pinterest Help two weeks ago, but of course, to date, no reply. Your blog and replies here is the first time in the past two weeks I've found anything on the internet talking about what I'm experiencing. I think they need to find a solution to this and get things back to normal, because I'm losing interest in pinterest and I'm sure I'm not the only one. It kind of feels like an insult that my pins arent circulating when I'm not a spammer and have put a lot of time into my account and was enjoying working on it. Not a good thing to do to your supporters Pinterest and with not one word of explanation. I mean, is this the way it's going to be from now on, or is this just a temporary thing? I started out using Pinterest just for my reference. Then when I was getting a lot of repins and followers, the fun element kicked in and I felt like I was 'creating' something that was interesting and useful to others as well. Now it seems boring and pointless in comparison. I am not a spammer and dont appreciate that now Pinterest has lumped me into the same category as one.

Anonymous said...

Yes, I just checked, now my boards up showing up in search results. I realised that my pins have been pulled from circulation, but only just realised that now my boards are gone to. I can see them of couse, they are there for me, but they have disappeared from showing up to the general pinterest population. Now I'm invisible. Why? What on earth is going on, and will it go back to normal?

Anonymous said...

That should have said, my boards are not showing up in search results.

me too, and it's ticking me off. i thought the point of pinterest is to share things, but it seems that's not what pinterest thinks! so frustrating.

Hi - I've been having the same problem and wondering if this has been resolved for you.

Unknown said...

I know this is an old post but did anyone get to the bottom of the problem? Have things resumed back to the way they were?

I have a pinterest account with several thousand followers. I pin everyday and get quite a lot of new followers and repins each day. Had lots of pins appearing in search results for various keywords. Now it's all disappeared - barely any new followers, repins have vastly reduced as it's mostly repins from existing followers on new stuff now and all the pins that were appearing in search results have been replaced by repins of my pin from other users who are now getting more repins and followers.

I emailed pinterest but no response yet. I'm am such a huge fan of pinterest and although I didn't go out there to get lots of followers and repins, when it happened, it felt great. It gave purpose to my pins and I can really relate to Anonymous (April 20 2013). It's just so disappointing. I am not a spammer and have spent a lot of time creating my account. I don't pin any content from my own website so all I can think is either it's a temporary bug or pinterest has changed something permanently in their algorithm. Or maybe my account has been flagged for some reason. I do wish pinterest would alert users if they've been flagged - atleast we'd have a chance to address the issue and prove we're not bots or spammers or do whatever's required to get things back to the way they were.

I'd love to know if anyone who left a comment here actually had things go back to normal or whether anyone got a response from pinterest? I know there's more to life than pinterest but this is quite depressing, I've just put so much effort into building my account for this to happen now :(

Does anyone know why pins I've uploaded from FB don't show in the search results?
